Lets Talk Tarp
When trying to simplify ones backpacking gear, everyone
comes to the point of looking at the weight vs. space of
their shelter. Tarping gives you the best of both worlds
with the lightest possible weight. For example, 8 x10
1.9oz urethane coated ripstop nylon tarp weighs only
20oz can produce a 5 x 7 foot dry area when set up in a
"A" frame style; if the tarp is made with 1.3oz silicone
impregnated ripstop nylon, the weight is a mear 13oz.
Add a ground cloth to it (weighs 8oz.), 50ft papchute
cord, and 6 stakes, your total weight is between 23-30oz
