Tarping gives you the best of both worldswith the lightest possible weight. For example, 8 x10 1.9oz urethane coated ripstop nylon tarp weighs only 20oz can produce a 5 x 7 foot dry area when set up in a "A" frame style; if the tarp is made with 1.3oz siliconeimpregnated ripstop nylon, the weight is a mere 13oz.
